Found I had no hot water Saturday night. Checked the system in the basement to find there was no heat in the DHW supply/return lines, but the zones upstairs had heat. The supply to the DHW tank was slightly warm, but the return was ICE cold. I removed the automag zone valve (installed on the return) to find that it failed closed (not supposed to do that!). I installed a honeywell V4083E in the supply side. Still no heat. At 1 AM, I decided to call it a night and I would look at again in the morning. Sunday morning I find still no hot water, but now the return line to the boiler is only luke warm. I now think the circ is dead. It's a small Taco on the return side. I quite rite there and call the tech. He comes out, disconnects the circ from the relay, plugs into a 110V line, and the circ runs. Turns out to be a burned out circ relay. I was so grateful that the boiler is in the basement and that gravity kept the house warm for a night. Last night we just left the cir running full time and turned the DHW zone valve to manual. Tech will install new L8148A today.
