Weil McCl. CG-5 spill switch

I was called to a customer's home to look at a Weil McCl. Cg-5 (sprk ign, w/ damper).

Main flame does not come on unless I jump out spill switch on flue.

I replaced spill switch and checked "B" vent chimney (all clear).

Problem still happens - no main flame unless spill switch is jumped out. Anything else to look for?

Thank you,

Harry (NY)

  • Did you

check for a fully open damper and draft @ the collector?

should be wired from terminal "Y" on control center, also the limit and roll out switch in the same cicuit going to pin 5 on the damper connector. Do you have 24 volts from terminal 5 on damper connector to "C" on control center. If you have 24 volts without jumping out the spill switch then the problem is in the damper. Jump out from pin 5 to pin 2 on the damper and see if it stays on without the spill switch jumped out that will prove the problem is in the damper. Is there a LWCO wired into this system? If so it is also in series with limit switches. It is possible you have a faulty probe on LWCO.

did you first try to push the reset button on the reset switch. if this control trips they want you to manualy reset it or it wont run the boiler.

    spill switch

If the spill switch failed after you replaced it then there is a good possibilty there is a blockage in the chimney, this should be your first place to check in the event of a failed spill switch. Hope this helps...Chris
