Hi Fellas!
Any of you fellas have any problems with Riello model BF Oil Burners?
Any problems with direct vent using the same vent hood that brings in combustion air, and vents exhaust from furnace or Boiler in same vent box at outside wall?
Curious.

I don't use the ...
BF series any more...still not sure about the post purge problem (K7R)...As to the vent hood combo...nice idea , not sure if its the way to go. I have had problems w/ dirty air enterng the intake....Is the hood on a northside of the building? Is it at least 12" off the ground? It's not in an alcove or too close to a side wall?
I have used the Thermodynamics LMDV...But the set up I most prefer is the Buderus G115 series that uses an Aerocowl hood and a seperate intake vent w/ the Carlin ez-p10 burner. Very slick, quiet and reliable...kpc0 -
John, Riello BF Go to .............
www.oiltechtalk.com and post over thier. I have one @ my home and have installed others w/ no problems. Most of the crew over thier only do oil and riello factory reps.are watching and will post with help. I can't really say that I've have seen any other posts about these being a problem. Was install per spec? Hope this helps John@Reliable0 -
Have had only one problem,
and that was when I got one of the ones with the post purge problem. It actually got hot enough to bust a Buderus 115-28 boiler, and only shut down because the wires melted in two.
Have done a number since and have no problems. Run great and very quiet. Buderus also stood behind this 100%, and supplied the new boiler and payed most of the labor.
WE now make sure the redundant aquastat shuts down the whole works, including the post purge.

riello direct vent
I have three of the buderus boilers with the Riello burner setup with the direct vent and the Fields "combo" termination and all three of them have given me major problems. All three of them had the old k7r control ( which I thought they got rid of a long time ago) and all three of them failed . The first two didn't make it more than two days, but the third one went two months before failing. Since replacing them with the new control, they are not experiencing any post purge hangups.
The Fields termination kit along with the Riello burner is another problem that I am experiencing. The Riello is so fast on it's primary that the slightest wind shift causes the burner to flame out and then recycle. This causes a lot of short cycling. Two out of three boilers are installed according to proper installation procedures, but the third was put in by the homeowner against my advice and on the wrong side of the house.
I think the proper setup with this combo would be to use the Aerocowl setup with the separate air intake as described earlier. This should make a good package.

Thanks fellas for the input.

Short and sweet,
been around Riello's since 1975 and would never use anyone's coaxial one piece inlet vent with that or any other very high static pressure burner (RWB-AFII), FACT!
BTW, if you are on a prevailing wind wall, you're in the wrong place, but even worse with a coaxial terminal you'll recirculate the fluegas, the flame goes blue, the cad-cell checks out and there goes the neighborhood, FACT!
