New Water Heaters & CO

on water heaters will cause them to shut down if excessive temperature is sensed.

Just a thought this same condition not caused by flammable vapors but poor venting of the water heater will cause it to shut down. This could in fact help to prevent some CO incidents relative to poor combustion conditions on water heaters.

Interested on your thoughts about this???

    Double edged sword

True, we will have shutdowns for other "incidents" besides flamable vapors, but these shutdowns won't be welcomed by either the customers or the installers. First, it will be hard to "prove" why the unit shut down and then there is no warranteed correction of shut down. Remember, some manufacturer's units require complete replacement of the water heater (at the customer's expense) if the sensor activates. We will have to be more carefull with our installations and check and double check all conditions of combustion or else have nothing but trouble. We forsee alot of "installers" quiting the business due to the "nuisance". It may give us "specialists" a new lease on life. We can only imagine how the "Homers" of the world are going to react after they "installed it themselves" and then it quits working and they have to pay for it to be fixed and/or replaced. It's going to be interesting. Can't wait for July - I think the fireworks are going to come early and last alot longer.
