Single pipe steam with baseboard radiators?

with the other owners who will complain about how thier heat dosen't work right since you did that.Who do you think will get the blame,even if done right? I always suggest to customers who don't like those big raditors taking up so much room this, when you add baseboard the room will get smaller. ie; if you put baseboard on two walls the room will srink 8 to 10". After this that raditor starts to look better in one spot.Also tell them to paint it the same color of wall to blend in and hide it, works for me 85% of the time. single pipe steam with baseboard radiators?

I have a client in an older condo building. There is one central boiler and it's probably 200' away. He wants to convert his conventional radiators to baseboards. It's a single pipe system. The unit is on the first floor with the steam pipes (the mains are probably 10") directly below in basement. Is this possible? The only parts I'm allowed to modify to the system are the 1 1/2" pipes coming off the main and to the radiator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ken, I wouldn't do that

steam baseboard needs to be hooked up two-pipe to work well. This is covered in "The Lost Art of Steam Heating". You would have to run a whole new set of return lines to the basement- one for each baseboard unit.

You'd be better off shipping the radiators out to be stripped and repainted. They'd look a whole lot better when this is done.
