Steam leak found

Well today I finally found the source of my problems. After fixing all the small problems I was still losing the water in this steam boiler. I stuck my head in the crall space which is all of ten inches high and found a section of the main line buried in dirt that was wet and had steam rising from it. I am going back with a long handled shovel and will remove the dirt from the bottom of this pipe to confirm the leak. Now this is a very old house and to repair this pipe I will have to remove sections of the floor to work from above the pipe. Is there any method of patching a steam pipe or is it a remove and replace job?

I wouldn't try to patch it
it's probably weak all thru that area. Best replace it, and don't bury it this time.
