Attic with Pipes and no Radiators

We live in an old house in Philadelphia with radiators throughout the house----however, our third floor attic has pipes and no radiators. We believe they were removed around
1950. We have no idea why and want to restore the heat. However, the steps are like a cliff and we are at a loss how to get radiators on the third floor. We fear the pipes may leak and the radiators were simply removed. We welcome any suggestions.

hot water or steam heat
Which do you have??0 -
Most likely........
...........You have a old gravity hot water system. They were a open system wich used a tank in the attic and a overflow pipe leading to the outside rain gutter. Your tank was made out of copper if it was a steel model it would still be up there...... A copper tank in 1953 would fetch a hardy lunch for a month for some lucky plumber.0
