I took a look at Tom Tesmar's site and he also said up to 100F on ceilings, just like the design book. Unfortunately, I'm going to be putting it in tommorrow morning. I didn't get the owner's final decision until Saturday morning and it needs to be done right away. I'll give you a call later this week for additional info for future reference.

    Radiant Ceiling design

Trying to design my first radiant ceiling and seem to be running into contradictions within Wirsbo's design info. Running ADS tells me the surface temp should not be over 87.5F, but in the complete design manual..4th Edition... it says the optimum design is 40 btu/sq ft...giving a surface temp of 95F. The limits in the design manual are 100F surface temp for 8 foot ceilings and under and 110F for ceilings over 8 feet. So what is good practice and what are the limits? The spaces I am looking at are in an existing home with baseboard needing about 200F in the coldest weather with a cast iron boiler (so reduced supply temps are not especially important). Full outdoor reset is used for the system supply temp with the boiler protected by thermostatic mixing valve.

    And one other thing

It seems when I go to radiant cidling design from radiant floor the ceiling insulation level is locked out when the space is heated above. Is there some default in the program for this insulation level behind the tubing?

    You might try

getting a hold of Tom Tesmar. He seems to be the radiant ceiling guy! He may have written the stuff you are looking at. He LOVES to talk radiant ceiling :) I think www.tesmar.com may get you to him.

There are also some ceiling threads at the RPA site that may answer you questions.

Use the RAU-PANEL by REHAU. I justed used in a wall job and heated like a pro. REHAU claims you can get 40 BTUs SQ FT in the ceiling.
