tekmar experts!

I thought I had installed a simple job so I did not worry about controls. Now I can't seem to find the right control. Details: one boiler, three space heating zones with pumps, DWH on a pump, piped P/S with one primary pump. DWH pump is piped on a tee before the primary pump with a separate return to the boiler. Need outdoor reset, priority DWH, and need to shut off primary pump on a call for DWH. Did I leave anything out? Thanks for your help

Not an expert, but i think the 370 might work for you. check it out under boiler controls

    Tekmar VS. Taco

I believe the taco would use outdated on/off thermostats (about 100 year old technology) while the tekmar uses indoor sensors to add indoor reset to the outdoor reset curve. With the tekmar, you can keep the outdoor reset curve set very tight for optimum comfort and efficiency, but when you set a zone down and then back up, the tekmar sensor can tell the control to run the sytem hotter until the zone warms up. Also, if you get a sunny day it can turn the system temp down to reduce the heat. It also purges the boiler to the DHW tank and/or space heating zones to reduce standby loses from the boiler, has variable boiler diferential, exercises the pumps and many other features....even if it was introduced about 10 years ago. If you are using a noncondensing boiler, the 370 also provides variable speed pumping and boiler low temp protection for full reset of supply water temps (not just down to 140F). The tekmar and the taco are controls that are in completely different categories, I believe.

    Zone temperature

    Hi Harvey,
Are your 3 space heating zones, all the same temperature,
(high temp for rads), or do you have to mix down? Tekmar has
the 260 if you just want to do boiler reset and DHW with
    priority.

I talked with the Taco expert at the AHR expo in Chicago and he said their panel would not shut off the primary pump on a call for DHW. That's the problem I've found, can't shut off the primary.

    tekmar problem

Have this problem when we install a WMGV Gold as P/S set up and domestic hot water. We use the Tekmar 260 and install a RIB relay in the system pump circuit on the NC circuit wiring. Use the 24V circuit from the indirect aquastat circuit to power the RIB open and it will kill power to the primary pump. RIB's are great relays and very inexpensive too!

    re: tekmar problem

Would be nice if the tekmar 260 had a 071 sensor option
for DHW and a continuous 120v output which breaks on
a DHW call. Have wired a few 260's - TO MUCH WIRING!!!

    Here is a simple suggestion

Just use a relay to isolate the primary pump when there is a DHW call.

    Relay

A relay to control the primary pump in series with the dry contacts on the multi pump relay is the simple way out of this situation.

    Don't understand....

who cares if the primary is still running... it ain't doin' notin' but runnin' the water in circles... the zone pumps still turn off... or for that matter just run the DHW piping off the the primary in the same way as the zones.....

I think that we try to make things so difficult that we end up confusing ourselves....I know what your tryng to do, but it ain't gonna amount to a hill of beans in the overall eff. of the system ....all it's doin' is givin you more work to do and costin' your customer a ton of money he don't need to spend!!!!

    just my 2 redneck cents
