Boilers and domestic hot wter

I recently talked with a guy that installed a new Takagi water heater in his new house. He told me that he used it for his in floor heat and his domestic hot water. can anyone explain how this can be done. I thought that the two were seperate and never to allow boiler water to mix with domestic water.

Many times here. The general feeling is that they should be seperate. Space heating water does not need the constant infusion of air into its system. potable hot water should be kept hotter than an in-floor heating system needs. The two waters should be seperated by a heat exchanger. There are many ways to accomplish this, and many types of heat exchangers. In very cold climates the very low mass (instant) water heaters should be set up so that condensation is a minimum consideration. radiant heating can spell a quick end to these boilers if return temperture is not high ehough.
