Looking around at bookstore today at old books. Looking for info on installing thimbles. Found this in forward of Audel's Mason's and Builders Guide:
When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, "See! This our fathers did for us." John Ruskin
I think this applies to more than just bricks?

Dan came up with something similar
"A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills, but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me."

i like that, short and sweet. I've done that in some of the older homes I've worked in, at the labor and care that went into building them. Not what was quick or easy, but the best way to do it, more effort but a greater return for it.0 -
You might want to check out
Advanced Book Exchange, www.abebooks.com
or Barnes and Noble, www.BN.com and click on the Out of Print tab.
Both give you searchable access to book dealers all over the USA, Canada and other places. And both have plenty of old heating books!

Thanks for the info, Steamhead. For some reason it is difficult to find any trades related books in this area, of any type. Even the local Barnes and Noble hardly has a 2' section on one shelf to choose from.0
