Honey Well Zone Vavles

A question about Honey Well Zone valves (V8043E). We have done a few boiler replacements always trying to change from using two or more circulators to using only one circulator and some zone valves. What I thought would be a problem is the size of inside hole of the zone valve body its about the thickness of a pencil. Wouldn't this choke down the flow of water to the zone. I was told that Honey Well makes a full bore zone valve for different applications.

Higher CV rating is what you are
looking for.
On page # 141 Honeywell catalog 2002 edition it gives CV ratings (Flow Capacity)
V8043E can be 1/2", 3/4" or 1" CV rating 3.5
there is also 3/4 and 1" with CV rating of 8
and even 1" one with a rating of 100 -
Pumps and valves
I use that zone valve on my hot tub, which is heated by a used 40 gal DWH tank with the help of a Taco copper DWH recirc loop pump. The bore is not 3/4" by any sretch of the micrometer, I'd guess closer to 5/16". Most of the design build work I do is a dirrect result of visiting here. I much preffer pumps to valves unless positive shutoff of a zone is required.
I had to close the loop between the heater and the tub as the spa pump jumped out and grabbed them BTUs while doing its filtering the water cycles. 148*F is too hot, for a hot tub even in Cleveland OH.
The flow through the bore of that type of valve has got to reduce the flow and therefore the BTU movement. I'll let the MEs do the math for you, but for me and mine since the costs are about the same we will use pumps.

Full port ZV
Check with Energy Kinetics. I think they have HW ZV that they use with the plated HTX that loooks almost full port.
3/4 sweat. Same HW M# but the flow port is way bigger0
