How to clean fins on baseboard H/W heat?

I use a long thin air nozzle ( 1/8th inch curved tube ) from my compressor, which fits between the fins. While using short air blasts, I have the shop vac hose right on the area I am cleaning. The vac sucks up 98% of what gets dislodged.

    Fin Cleaning

I don't think my baseboard fins have been cleaned since the sixties.
I swept and vacuumed them out and in the kitchen I flooded them with water to get the dirt out from between the fins and it worked great.
Now I have no idea how to get the living room and dining room as clean (carpeted).
Does anyone have a suggestion other than pulling the carpet out?
    Thanks alot

If you don't have an air commpressor....

You could purchase a small compressed air tank at a home improvement store and refill it as many times as you need at the gas station. Cleaning those fins is definitely worth it....if they were rather dirty, you'll see a drop in fuel usage. While your at it, clean the fins of the refrigerator. These should be cleaned at least once a year. Cleaning them will cut your electrical usage and extend the life of the frig.
