Bad dip tube

I just found out from an old consumer magazine that my hot water heater has a defective dip tube. Not one plumber over the past 5 years even suggested this even after I told them that my hot water faucets always seemed to be clogged with little pieces of white plastic and I didn't seem to have much hot water anymore. So of course I have missed the deadline to get it replaced by A.O. Smith. Why would the original plumber who installed it not sent tme a notice of the recall and/or settlement. Do you as plumbing contractors get those from the companies? Anyway my question really is, is it worth replacing this dip tube or is this the time I should just get a new heater?

    How old

is your heater and do you know the model #? Typically you get a 6 year warranty on standard water heaters or they upgrade to a 10-12 year warranty.

    flush

whether you replace the heater or the diptube. make sure you flush the lines/tank with the aerators removed to get rid of any residual plastic left in the system/tank

    Good Luck.

    We don't get much

in the way of notification unless one is a stocking dealer.

This one was everywhere, shame on your servicing contractors.

The dip tube is cheap enough, its the labor that will get you.

    Good luck,
