Boiler Safety Relief Valve

What is the permissible mounting location for a low pressure Steam Boiler Safety Relief Valve as per ASME Code? Also, can you locate the valve , say, at a vertical distance of 18" to 20" from the top of the Boiler Shell connected by pipe, if field conditions do not permit locating it right on top of the Boiler?

    I'd Talk To...

    ...the boiler manfacturer, and the local inspector. My suspicion is that they won't like it. If they allow it at all, they may want you to install a safety valve that's the next capacity up from what's there now.
