Unbelivable!!!!!
I just finished a heat load /ac load off a set of plans.
3 contractors did the same. The builder is having a fit,who do i belive he asks me? I faxed him my sheets using the new wrightsoft manual J 8. My heat loss findings are about half of the others and two thirds less on cooling. I asked what software they were using he said he got a quote not a heat loss/gain sheet.

heat calcs.
Does that suprise you? pretend your in the market for a new furnace or boiler. Call and get yourself a bunch of estimates and recomendations. I'll bet that if you had a dozen heating contractors come in, less than half would do heatloss calculations.0 -
builders are
notoriously cheap. I'm not saying all are. But if your the sub that can provide what he thinks he needs, the low bid is going to get the job. Thats why scorched air usually comes out ahead with them.0 -
I have found builder's naturally go to the bottom line. They need to be educated in how to qualify a bid. I always ask to see the other guys calculations and of course they don't have any. Our work is different from other trades as rarely there are codes that cover capacity or sizing.0 -
Yes Heatboy
I got the job based on doing the right thing.I see alot of homes that are a mess as far as the mechanicals. The kitchens aand baths are great,so they didnt notice the 80%furnace and over sized condensor outside.
Thanks

GC'S
Builders want the low price so they can tack their markup onto your number, in some cases making more money than the guy doing the work. And guess who has to warranty the system. Very hard to find a good builder to work with. I am absolutely not saying that all builders are crooks, but typically that is high output work with low income dollars in new construction. If you work with a good builder, then keep a good relationship because that is the exception rather than the rule. There are lots of companies lining up to do the cheapest work, letum have it. Concentrate on dealing directly with the homeowner. It is much more effective to directly educate the end user and customize directly to their needs, rather than bow to the GC,s socalled budget number.0 -
