I was at a customers home yesterday to look at an addition they are building and want radiant heat in.
While I was there the framer mentioned to me that the heating system for the main house was completely messed up.
There is a forced air system in the main house located in the attic(house is on a slab). The customer had a gas insert installed in the fireplace and a free standing gas stove placed in the kitchen.
The framer tells me that when the furnace comes on it was "sucking" all of the gas out of the gas insert. SO............... he said he "balanced" the gas with the gas cocks!!!
Wanna talk about some REALLY under fired equipment?
The original heating contractor ran 1/2" flexible gas line from the meter location to the furnace, about 40 feet away. Then the other appliances were added and no one bothered to concern themselves with whether the gas line was sufficient to handle the total load.
We will be fixing this ASAP!
