Snow blocks chimneys, 400 homes evacuated because of carbon monoxide
By Associated Press, 2/17/2003 10:20
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) Four hundred homes in a low-income housing development were evacuated Monday because deep snow blocked chimneys and caused a buildup of carbon monoxide gas, police said.
No injuries were reported, Police Chief Davis Haas said.
Residents of the Tricia Meadows development walked or were given rides to a a temporary shelter set up in a school less than a mile away.
The area in southern New Jersey had about 17 inches of snow by late morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The single-story houses in the development are not connected but all have similar chimneys and vents.
There was no immediate word on when residents would be allowed to return home.

Anybody know more about this?
Thanks.
