Hard Holes

Need holes through impervious (hospital grade) floor tile? This works--easily, rapidly and fairly inexpensively.
Hole for radiator piping--1½" for a bit of "wiggle room" when installing. Had cut much smaller holes in this same grade of tile previously--broke many; took FOREVER; watch the kerosene lube start smoking.
Use florist's clay for the "dam"; plain water for lubrication; and VERY low speed (250 rpm) for this size hole. Took less than a minute to drill and required only light pressure. [Might] be possible without the drill press if you have a REALLY low speed drill and an EXTREMELY steady hand (no pilot bit with these).
Available from a stained glass supplier at a price MUCH lower than quoted years ago by a local supply house who deals with ceramic tile tools.

(You have to click on "Hand Tools" at the left and then select "Diamond Hole Saws". Can't get a direct link to the page to work.)
While you probably don't do the tiling, you might want to pass this on to those who do. If they haven't seen these they will LOVE them as this type of extremely hard tile has become more and more common.
