    Walked the Dogs this morning

We have single digits in DC but the wind is up and the wind chill must be considerably low. Even the doggies were glad to get home after 30 minutes in those conditions. WW

On the digital right now. That's actual air temp. The good part is that the 10mph wind is blowing from the South, so it should warm up here. Usually about the middle of June. (G)
  • It's above zero on Long Island

But we have wind. Yesterday, a 3 story building, under construction, blew down. Rockaway NY.

    .........brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, and still warm

An interesting observation; many, many years ago when designing ANY sort of heat system our delta T was 90 degrees (-20 to 70). Then many years ago we became 'enlightened' and dropped that to 80 degrees. Then about 8 to 9 years ago I started looking at and using actual U.S. Weather Service data listed town by town, and began using those numbers. Those delta's for my region (So. New Hampshire) are typically 68 to 76 degrees. I've been using them and no complaints. Past few days I've called some of the consumers I could to ask what their comfort level is. Complaint is typical..............."My boiler/furnace runs more; but the house is 70/71 degrees".
    As I said; interesting observation.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

  • Paul Harvey....

said the other day, that there was one day last January where every state in the United States, except Hawaii, was below freezing. Unprecedented in the history of weather collection.

You still want me to believe that we're not influencing global climate changes through pollution...

And we're still in the throws of the worst drought on record. If it doesn't start snowing and raining here REAL hard, there may not be enough water to make it through the summer. Serious stuff out here in the Great American Desert.

on my hill top today (6 AM). So cold the JEEP would not stay in gear because the boot around the shifter would not flex.

I burn a lot of wood in the winter. Typically around 3.5-4 cord. I will be out of wood by Monday. Usually, I have a 1-2 week supply left at the end of the season. Now I get to play with the chainsaw this weekend. Thank god for deadwood!

What is everybody seeing for Gas and fuel oil prices?

Ours is $1.76 for gas. Fortunately I'm locked in at $1.19 for oil.

    My wallet hurts

These design conditions days are really taking their toll on the finances. Spent $438 last month on gas and this month isn't shaping up to be much better. I had one day last month where my Cronotherm logged 18 hours and 43 minutes of usage and my system dosen't reach high limit very often. Today has hit 9h 50m and it is only 10:47! I turned down the TRVs on the second and third floors just to give the boiler a rest for a few minutes anyway. The house is too comfortable for my wallet I guess, but with a baby that still is on night feedings and a two year old that loves to stand in front of the kickspace heater barefoot there isn't much else to do 'cept pay up, shut up, and find the time to finish up tightening the house up!

    Stay warm,

    Eric
