advice on one pipe steam repipe

I am a young heating tech. i have been at the game for about 6 years. Through my years in the heating industry i have taken a great intrest in steam and have read everything i can get to help me. I just purchased a house built in 1911 with a one pipe steam system. I want to restore the house to its period. The problem is the system has been canabalized by unknowledgebale techs over the years. the mains are a mess. and I plan to redue the main piping. the problem I am having is not the cellar bottom, its the risers going ot the radiators on the second floor. Should I rip the walls down and reipe the whole system in whole or should I just convert to a hot water system.

    what is the .......

problem w/ thre risers? Have you purchaced the LOST art of steam heating? It's a must for the steam heat owner...I'd read it first then make your decision as to whether to convert....kpc

    Keep the Steam

This is a great opportunity to learn steam. After you do, you might just get the urge to build a whole new system- just like Ed Bratton, Noel, Mad Dog and I have!

We all had to start somehere, and this sounds to me like your starting point.

    don't convert

Why do you believe you need too change the risers in the walls? does the system run, and how well? do you have any pictures you could post? What exactly was butchered?
