beckett oil burner

Member Posts: 1
i have a thermo pride warm air furnace with a beckett afg burner and a power venter.upon completion of a cycle the burner has an after drip that drips onto the blast tube and the heat from the chamber heats the tube to the point that the oil starts to smoke and then the smoke starts to back up into the basment. I have checked the oil pressure and the cut off of the pump and they did chechout fine but the cut off dropped off about 30 pounds .so i did go ahead and change the pump after about a week the problem has come back.as a precaution i did adjust the purg time on the power venter to help cool the chamber down some . My next course at this time is to add a oil solnoid valve?

thermopride
I think they make a soft chamber for this type of situation. A solenoid (imho) is a must on a sidewall venter.0 -
oil drip on shut down
Excessive heat in the combustion chamber is drawing the oil in the gun line out the nozzle after shut down. Increase or add post purge to inducer to cool chamber after shut down. I think Delevan or one of the nozzle companies makes a check valve for nozzle. Talk with Thermo-Pride and Beckett Reps for ideas?0 -
Beckett/Thermopride
This is a fine combination . With a power venter I would suggest the oil valve with a pre AND post purge control .
This unit has a heavy fire box . Any residual heat after the thermostat is satisfied can cause the problems you describe . The long post purge on the P/V is also a good thing . (I know I'll get some slack from posters here on that , but time tells me differently!) Your heading in the right direction . A electrical cutoff is more positive than the built-in mechanical cutoff. Good luck . Chris0 -
Heat from chamber.
You can put a solenoid on but that doesn't solve the problem of the heat from the chamber heating the nozzle line which causes the oil to expand and drip. If your post purge is at maximum and the chamber is still hot, if your venter is made by Field, you may want to use a CK-63 control kit. It uses a solenoid valve to control the flame independently from the burner motor and runs the burner motor simultaneously with the venter motor in pre- and post-purge for more air flow. I think this is a must when using an outside air intake(added resistance to flow) and makes life easier for the venter motor(it's not pulling all that air through on its own).0 -

CB, When using this combination Thermo Pride recommends the soft chamber and a fresh air kit. I believe they are now owned by Burnham? Give them a call and they will give you the part number to the kit for this application.
Best of luck to you and keep them customers warm!

post nozzle drip
If the AFG has an air stop the post purge will need to be on the burner control also, this item with the is well worth the cost. You are half way there with the oil valve install.

post purge time
Extend the post purge timing on the power vent to a minimum of 3 minutes. More may be necessary to get enough heat out to eliminate the after drip and fumes. Is it a ThermoPride power vent?0
