Is there a \"Water Tempering Valve\" ?

Is there an automatic aquastat/valve that will add cooler water from the return line of a furnace to the Hot side, to keep the temperature of water going to the baseboard heat to a reasonable level ?

    Definitely--many types

    Danfoss ESBE series should have something to suit the application. Unfortunately the self-contained thermostatic variety probably wouldn't be suited to your application as highest mixed temp is 149°.

    Baseboard usually like quite hot water, so it seems a bit unusual that you would need to temper it any more than turning down the aquastat a bit. If you need the higher temp when really cold outside, a reset (with appropriate shallow curve) may be suited as well.

    There was also mention of an "indoor reset" a few months back--don't know if it's available yet, but it sounded quite intriguing.

    mixing

    Do do what your talking about requires a pump.

    This can done as a "coil pump" setup with modulating valve or manual set mixing.

    supply----balancing valve-----------pump-------baseboard
    b
    y
    p
    a
    s
    return---------------------- s---------------baseboard

    The return is at at lower pressure than the supply so it cannot be recirculated into the supply without a pump. Return does want to mix with supply. Supply flows to return.

    Shower/potable water mixing valves are for open systems where cold and hot water are both at similar pressures but higher than outlet (open end) atmospheric pressure.
