Removing insulation from steam main

A few years back after reading Dans book I installed fiberglass insulation over my 1 pipe steam main in my basement. The result has been a noticeable drop in temperature (no more extremely hot basement!) in the basement area.

I do have a small studio type apartment that is rented by a nice gentleman and he too has noticed the difference. He recieves his heat from a hot water add on to the boiler.

I was wondering if I removed a small section of the insulation from the pipe that runs thru his apartment so as to expose the bare pipe (lets say 2 or 3 feet) to give off more heat therby increasing the temp in his place everytime I increase the temp in mine. I know from Dans book that bare pipe would act like another rad.

Would this be acceptable and is there any downside to this? We are talking about a 25 foot run of main with maybe 2 or 3 feet of insulation removed.

    I don't think

you'll notice much of a difference in the way the system performs and it should help warm him up.

    Thanks for reading me!
