Adding radiant heat to existing steam system
I own a 100 year old house with a one-pipe steam system and large cast iron radiators. My hot water is heated off the boiler and stored in Thermo 40 gallon tank. We are about to add a 2 story, 1000 sf addition, and I would like to put in-floor radiant heating. Can I use my existing boiler/water heater or do I need a separate system for the addition? I really want to do whatever makes the most sense.0 -
it depends on the size of three things,
1) the steam load
2)the new addition hot water heat load
3)the boiler size

The water running through the system is usually only 80-90 degrees or so. Did you need some sort of heat exchanger or mixing system to bring the temperature down?
