Boiler and Indirect WH

I have a spot in my garage that would be very convenient to install a boiler and indirect WH. I live near Buffalo, NY and my garage gets down to 20 degrees at times. I would build walls and insulate around the new system. Would it really have a negative effect if I installed this way?? Think it would cool off my IWH alot faster??? Thanks. I wouldn't put a boiler in a garage

since gasoline vapor can accumulate in there and be ignited, even if you build a wall around the boiler. Sealed-combustion boilers are much safer than standard models but why take the chance?

I don't see a problem with putting the indirect in there, as long as it is protected from freezing and mechanical damage. But a 20-degree garage could pose a problem.

Why not put a radiator in the garage on a separate loop filled with antifreeze and fed from a heat exchanger?

My problem is that it would be easy to vent in the garage and not 10 miles away from my bedroom. It takes forever for the hot water to get there!!!!!

    Gararge boiler,

Boilers in garages are O.K. if Installed per code and supplied with outside air for combustion. Our code here N.H. requires boilers in gararges to be 18'' off the floor to prevent fumes from being ignited.Your codes may vary from this and you should check with your local code official as to local requirements.I have installed dozens in gararges over the years with no problems.I suggest you contact a heating proffesional in your area to advise you.
