flue sharing

I have a job whee the HO wants to install a gas fireplace/stove. there is only one flue at this home. it presently has a wood stove hooked into it along with the boiler. I informed them that this is not a good or "legal" idea. They have sinced stopped using the wood stove.
The boiler is an oil boiler converted to gas(midco burner). Can the flue for the wood stove be used for a gas stove as long as the oil boiler stays converted? tia kpc

    If

If memory serves me correctly NFPA 54 allows for two gas appliances in the same flue if the flue is large enough and they are in the same room.

  • No way you can not have a gas fireplace with a converted boiler.

They have to be flued seperately. Now if this is a dedicated space heater (console heater)with a draft hood the answer is yes. You need to check ANSI Z21.50/CSA2.22 Vented Gas Fireplaces.
