I looked at a radiant job yesterday. The system consists of a dedicated gas water heater connected to pex tubing in a concrete slab. The system operates at 110*F at 15PSIG. The piping that connected the remote manifold to the water heater was 3/4" CPVC (Charlotte FlowGuard Gold). I am familiar with this product but I have never worked with it as I do not do plumbing work. My question: Is this product rated for use in a closed loop hydronic heating system? If not, what are the reasons? I was hired to survey the entire mechanical system in this new home and I have to prepare a written report. TIA -DF

well
Any chance of contacting the manufacturer? I'd want their blessing - in writing - before I gave approval. The temperatures are withing the tubing's rated range, but I'd want to know the flow rates and incorporate some sort of strainer to avoid/prevent premature hydraulic erosion.

I agree with Dave
BF Goodrich has a website that may hold the answer. Nothing like a letter or e-mail from the manufacture to clear it up.
Definitely keep glycol out of PVC products!
I saw a 180 degree hw baseboard system piped with CPVC once. Had been running for years!

Manufacturer
Hi Dave,
I have a call into the local Charlotte Rep (Joyce Agency) but their tech staff is away at a conference. I thought I might get a quicker response here on The Wall. Thanks for your reply. -DF
PS Steve and I are still planning to visit you sometime soon. Do you have a Go-Kart track near your shop?
