best boilers

I have been reading the many posts on this wall for a few weeks now. I am going to be looking for a new boiler in the not so distant future. (as well as a new heating system) I am curious as to any thoughts on the new boilers? The good and the bad. Such as the M-Z, the Trinity, or any of the smaller wall mounted units out there. Do they work? I will be looking for a gas boiler to run some radiant heat as well as some radiators. I have learned alot just from reading many of your posts and hope to get some more direct information. Also what do these units tend to run?

If you are looking for the best boiler.
Look at the Viessmann Vitodense boiler, Condensing full mod burner, direct vent sealed combustion
    You cannot here it run.

    Boilers.

There may be one or two of you out there that will disagree, but I am a firm believer in "simpler is better"

Depending upon the application I still like the Crown products for the money.

    Good people, good value.

    Good-Bye

in todays market there are lots of great choices for boilers, find and good contractor tell him what you want to accomplish and let him help you choose the best boiler for your application. with out seeing your job pricing means nothing. i'm also a firm believer that piping [system] design is every bit as important as boiler brand and what you design affects what you choose to use for a boiler

    All Good Points

Finding a knowledgeable and competent hydronic/radiant contractor is absolutely the first and most important step.

Everything should fall nicely into place after that.

    Agreed.

Got to agree, never seen a boiler better than a tremendous installer. Even the "mediocre" stuff seems to do tremendously well in a great contractors hands.

    I agree too...

You need to look at the boiler as just the biggest component in a system, that has many parts, from most likely a dozen different companies. Not counting all the above parts, the boiler itself will have a number of different optional ways you can order it, from the brand of burner, controls or other.
Personally the Vitodens wall mounted gas boiler is so far ahead of most others, that it stands alone.
BUT the combination of the assembled parts and how its done is what makes one system ultimately better than another.

I would like to thank the people who actually gave me advice on boilers and to say to the others: who best advice is to "leave it up to the professional" that that is a total load of crap. A well informed homeowner should be considered a good customer, I am sick of beinging taken advantaged of by "plumbers and heating specialists", some who came from this list. I actually expected some information on the pro's and con's of different wall hung boilers that people on this list had had experience with. Dan's advice was to ask questions to the people on this list, sorry if that was too much to expect.

Irene, we are trying to give you unbiased advice. Every one of us has our favorite boilers, and that differs from region and application. The other guys are not taking advantage of you at all. They are stressing that buying a boiler is not like buying a washing machine or TV, plugging it in and walking away. The contractors skill and knowledge in piping the boiler, using the right components and in the right places can make or break the performance of any brand.

The boilers you mention are all good. Doing radiant? The condensing boiler is the right choice. Do all the research on brands. The hard part is the human element, and finding a competent installer. Did you try the "find a contractor feature? Hope this helps you.

    Well, I'm humbled

It's been a long time since someone told me I'm full of crap.

Thanks Irene. Have a nice day.
