need feedback on AO Smith Cyclone---Bill Clinton

Have a set of plans in front of me specing 100 gallon, 199000 btu AO Smith Cyclone. I've never used it but have seen cutaways at trade shows. It's condensing but not made of stainless steel: Relies on glass lining to protect flue passage--doesn't look trustworthy to me. It's fired by a downshot power gas burner. Looks like it would roar worthy of it's name.

Does anybody out there have experience with these beasties? Are they reliable? Noisy? Parts available? Cantankerous? Would you put one in your own home?

I'd appreciate any info you can give me. Thanks.

Bill

These water heaters work very well from my experience, I really like the digital temperature display and the efficiency. the downshot burner seems like a good idea however the cyclones that I have installed really howl. It seems as though someone on this site spoke of a muffler of some type for them.

    Hope this helps,

    I have a friend

whose company installed several of these (I think they're the same model series) and howl they did. I'd be interested to know how to cure the problem and will pass the solution on to her.

We've put in two. Both vented vertically, so exhause noise isn't an issue. One has been in 18 months or so, another has been in less than 6 months. Neither has had any call backs although I admit that 18 months isn't very long. Thats what I know about em. Good luck, Luke

    Pretty reliable heaters

My company is a service rep. for AO Smith and for the most part, the cyclones are pretty reliable. They're definitely efficent but the most problematic calls are the condesate tubes blocking up. You have to always pitch it perfectly downward with no obstructions. And lastly, dont vent it between four buildings, it'll create a massive echo.
