Radiant & loop systems

I'm putting on an addition. Currently I have a 2 zone loop system, boiler. Can I add a radient floor heating "zone" off the same boiler for the addition? If so what's involved?

Radiant addition
Yes. This is a common addition. You will need to have a new supply and return source tapped into the manifold piping routed through a mixing device (3 or 4 way mixing valve) and a zoning circulator. The zoning circ is turned on by the room thermostat and the relay contacts on the zoning circ are tied into the "T - T" terminals on the boiler to bring the boiler and main circulator on when the radiant zone is calling for heat. From this basic installation, you can add outdoor reset for the floor temperature, if you wish.

Sounds simple enough.
That's where trouble can sometimes begin. Make sure the existing boiler can handle the additional load. Do the heat loss calcs or hire a pro to figure it out for you, it is worth the investment.
Then just watch out for return temps.
Good luck.
