Oxygen Diffusion - I'm looking for some info on

that at one time were controlled with mixing valves but the valves failed due to oxygen diffusion and injection was used to get them back up and running.

What problems did you encounter down the line? What type of annual maintenance if any was required? Did any of the injection pumps fail? If so, how long of a time frame between install and failure? Has anyone attempted to change the brass/copper manifolds over to plastic? If so, whose did you use? Has anyone ever used a mixed tank instead of an injection pump?

I have a job that I will be looking at in 2 weeks that was done in the 1970's and as most of you know no O2 Barrier. I'm trying to gather as much info as I can because as we all no. Real world and what's in a book are in some cases 2 different things. Thanks for any help in advance.

Chris

    Good info

on this subject is available at www.misterpex.com. Click on the coil of tube, then articles.

A number of factors come into play. Certainly the temperatures are a big factor. Run the system on a reset control to keep them as low as possible.

All non ferrous components will address the problem.

An ongoing chemical treatment and monitoring program will also "fix" the problems that MAY be encountered.

Seperate the tube via a HX will also work.

For reasons I can't explain not all pb or early non barrier systems fall victim to corossion problems.

Others fail in a big way?? Depending on the tube a good cleaner will generally bring the system "back". Then use one of the above methods to prevent further problems. If this is an Entran 2 system, best to keep the fluid in the system. Draining and flushing will cause the plasticizers to go down the drain. Bad things may happen after that :)

Changing the mixing device will not solve the problem, it just moves it to a different, possibly more expensive component, in my opinion.

    Old Radiant

    Chris
What is the problem with current system? There are different options you can do.
1-Make sure all your components are stainless, brass or plastic.
2-flush system and add rust inhibiter.
3-seperate boiler from radiant with heat exchanger.

    Good Luck

Our host here Dan Holohan wrote an article on this subject and as always he paints pictures in your mind through his writing to help just about anyone understand the article.

Dan, might you be able to pull this one from your files or is it in Hot Tech Topics? I'll go look

    Clarification

I know how to fix a radiant system without O2 Barrier. I'm looking for some info on systems that were fixed? Were there problems down the road? Annual Maintenace? Control Failure? Was there somthing different that you didn't do that you wished you did?

The system I have was installed in the 1970's, 3/4 Wirsbo Tubing. Been through 2 Boilers - Mixing Vlvs Failed. It's a 5 Million Dollar Home. Frank Severino posted on this several days ago and he has asked me to help him on this. I'm looking for data or someone that has fixed these systems in the past and would like to no the long term results, maintenance required.

    Hard to answer

that question, Chris. Watching the fluid, ph mainly, will tell you when trouble is brewing. Check it yearly would be my advise. There is no blanket answer. It depends!!
