It has been a long while since I read \"Ulysses\"

Did your pub figure into the novel?

    The Bleeding Horse did

It was next door to our hotel. They had a quote in stone on the doorstep.

My favorite was this little place on the North side, way off the beaten path and filled with locals. Kelly and her teacher friends took us there. Lots of spontaneous music, bottomless glasses and very good craic.

I feel like I just took a vacation.

I trust you left the place as you found it...I plan to be there in March. Glad you liked it. Funny though how the ambience changes when you are no longer a struggling student.

    That place

probably hasn't changed in a hundred years. Great atmosphere. We went in just after mass and the place was filled Sunday morning people. Lovely!

    Vanishing past

I would have suggested a wonderful old hotel on the quays, The Clarence, but U2 bought it a number of years ago and set about "tastefully" redecorating it. McDaids was another Joyce hangout but Mulligans is my favorite. Did you go to Mass in Trinity? I used to spend my time playing billiards in a room overlooking the Quad. On a nice afternoon, we would sit on the steps of the clubhouse watching a cricket game - didn't have a clue what was happening but it seemed so civilized. Also forgot to tell you about the mummified remains of...but that's another story.

    My daughter

went to brunch there a few months back and wound up sitting next to the Edge and his brood for a few hours. She called and I thought she was going to lose her mind.

We went to mass in the church that has Saint Valentine's remains. It was very near to where she lives. That was pretty special.

Visiting Mecca...(otherwise known as the Guinness Brewery)

I see the real purpose of Dan's visit to Dublin was a religious pilgrimage.

I used to work on Thomas Street which runs alongside the site of the Guinness Brewery. The pubs on that street had the best tasting pint in town. Tasted like they had a direct pipeline from the brewery.

Damn it - all this nostalgia has given me a craving for Vitamin G!
