Radiator conversion

I have a one-pipe steam system. A new boiler was put in last year with extra capacity for adding an addition to the house, which is now under way. Are water system radiators easily converted for use in a steam system? Is it just a matter of converting the venting? Is there a minimum size pipe entry needed for steam? If I need to enlarge the pipe entry, is this difficult to do?

Most new radiators and "rehabilitated" ones are just fine for steam or hot water. Just make sure you have one that gives you what you need in terms of heat.

Most new radiators and "rehabilitated" ones are just fine for steam or hot water. The manufacturer or the dealer will tell you if they have been tested. Just make sure you have one that gives you what you need in terms of heat.

Pipe size is critical in steam, so be careful. You have counterflow in this case so be certain you size it right. Even with one pipe, I don't know if you would need to go larger that 2" but it depends on how much heat you need and how large the radiator is.
