Clogged tubes

Have been working on an old twintran slab job that has stopped heating. We blew through the tubes with compressed ait and found them partially clogged with a silt like material. The homeowner thinks it's from the well water, which built up over time because there was a leak in a pipe and the boiler has been feeding a little water all the time over many years. The leak has been found and fixxed but we want to clean up the silt because as you may remmember,(or not) the twintran is only 1/4 in ID tubing and is easily clogged. Is there anything we can circulate through with an acid pump that would help clean out this nasty stuff. We have valved it so we can isolate the radiant floor loop and have boiler drain on each end. Thanks for any input

    If it's

a clay issue with the water supply then about the only thing you can do is flush the system with clean water.

Typically an Alum injection system is used to clean up water that has a high clay content, The Alum attaches itself to the clay and takes it out of suspension.

Maybe someone knows of a different way, but I think flushing with fresh water is all you can do.

    Hope this helps!

    It could be

deposits from continous fill water, or it could be the result of corrosion from O2 migration. Twintran was a EPDM tube, after all.

Contact Scott at 417-860-2998 (cell phone) As a former Heatway employee he has tons of experience with the problems you are experiencing.

He is in the the boiler chemical business now, and has developed a great cleaner, built exactly for these systems.
