Goodman Gas Pack - Natural Gas

Is this one of those furnaces that sits outdoors and blows hot air into/at the house? If so check the burner orifices and the inshot burners themselves. Little critters love to build nests and pack junk into those orifice holes. If those are all clean, you likely have a failed heat exchanger which is messing up your draft in the center HX sections. This is very bad. Please for your own health and safety shut it off until you have a technician look at it!!
You have what is widely considered to be the yugo of the heating world. Goodmans reputation for quality and long life is not exceptional to say the least.

    Goodman Gas Pack

I have a Goodman Gas Pack. The limit switch keeps tripping out. It is like a roll-out switch but it is about 6" away from the burners on the top plate. It has a manual reset switch and it is set at 350F. The flame off of the two middle burners are going up and hitting the top plate. I pulled out the burners which are in shot burners. They were clean. I checked the gas pressure coming into the gas valve. I had 7" coming into the gas valve and going to the mainfold I had 3.5". I checked the inducing draft motor and wheel and they looked like new. FLA on motor is .5 amps. The amps were .4. I replaced the switch and it is still tripping out. This unit has places on both sides for the same kind of switch to mount. I put both switches on, wired up the switches and the unit is staying on now. But the top plate is still getting too hot. The flames are a blue color.

UPDATE: I would like to thank all that replied to my e-mail about my gas pack. I have done HVAC for 20 years and it stumped me on the problem with my unit. I spoke with Jason at Mechanical Air, Inc. in North Carolina and he seems to have resolved my problem. It turns out that the wingspans were too wide and it seems to be working fine now.

    You need a pro, O.

flames rolling out like that can result from several things. Hiring someone familiar with that unit is money well spent.

    Cut it off!

You need a PRO! Sounds like a cracked or stopped up heat exchanger. Both of these are very dangerous! Could be putting Carbon Monixide into the building. Shut it down!

Sounds like the wings on the burners have gotten lazy. Try checking the gap on the wings. They should be approximately a dimes thickness gap between them. Double check heat exchanger for sooting problems or cracks before completion. Please advise of result.

    I say..........

Check the chimley, either it's not high enough above the peak, winds are affecting it or the chimney is plugged. These are the first things I'd look at.
