Apollo 70-204-01 ball valve. On the back of the tag is written:
WARNING: This product contains lead known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Is it safe to use these with potable water?

yes its safe
california requires these dumb warnings if there is any lead at all, even if its within the approved amounts by the epa. faucets have the same warnings.0 -
only in California
Thanks - I suspected it was a CA-only over-reaction :-)
I did notice in the Legend catalog that they have several pairs of valves with seemingly identical specs except one is NSF certified/rated. So I thought there might be something more to the Apollo tag than met the eye.
