    Service calls

It is now 6 degrees outside in NYC.
I'm very surprised I'm not getting any calls, though.
I have a theory that maybe the colder it gets outside the less cycling boilers do and consequently have fewer breakdowns.
    Anyone with me? Just curious.

    Its the wind

I find when the wind picks up thats when the real problem arise. Specially the frozen pipes.

We've got enough with work without the no heat calls at 6:00 pm Saturday, thank you very much. :)

We've had the coldest weather of the season and...

have had a very quiet week, even went home early one day. I thin in our case it is due to the number of clean and checks we did in Oct, Nov, Dec. Much more than the last couple of years, and I think a lot of breakdowns were prevented due to so many customers getting maintenance done. I know we did a lot of return calls to put in parts that were failing, whcih adds to my theory.

    I would agree

nothing like a constantly on burner to limit ignition system, gas valve, vent damper and other assorted component wear.

Here's to fully modulating burners!! Start em up in September, turn them off in April, or May, whenever :)

    Try

June here in Northern Lower Michigan. Back on again the last of August. Just two seasons......Winter and Black Fly. Maybe this cold weather will kill off some of the little demons for next year. Here's hoping for -25* for a week!!
  • You are right Glenn

for all of the years I worked for the gas company and we did light ups and pre heating season checks our cold weather work load was bearable. Then the company started charging (1972) for service and stopped free check ups.

The following years the work load was tripled and cold weather caused all the jobs that were just hanging on to fail. It was also in those days that we mixed propane with the natural gas, that did not help the situation.

Preventive maintenance is a must now days more than ever.

    PM service agreements

We did a few mailings for PM service agreements this year and had a great responce from our regular customers. There were only a few calls so far this winter from those houses.
We do still get the yellow page calls.
Since we are located just south of Philadelphia, we won't be doing any calls between 3pm and 6pm.
