System 2000

that clears it up, but it might melt down. About 16 years ago I installed about 20 Celti boilers (side wall mounted) gas fired boilers. These boilers have about 1/2 gallon of water in them, as I remeber they had flow control switches that if the water flow stopped the gas was shut off.
The apartment building changed hands, the on site maintence man jumped out the switch (Grunfos pump had stuck) instant melt down, oops!

    System 2000

With the EK-1 do they provide the same boiler and change the btu output by just changing the nozzle? ie..75 firing rate @ 102,000 and increase the nozzle size to 1.00 fire rate and gross out put to say 120,000 btu.???
I have a job where a large addition is going on and want to make sure the boiler will be big enough. tia, kpc

    yes, you change the nozzle.............

to make the EK-1 go from 104mbtu to 121mbtu, BUT you buy the bigger boiler (the EK-2), to make the boiler go from 170mbtu to 206mbtu. Keep in mind this is the gross not the net rating.
Also maybe look up their web site www.energykinetics.com, to find the closest dealer near you, since these are set up with area dealerships, and you will mostly likely get your best service, if you go with the one closest.

    A couple things.......

that you may already know. (don't want to insult you, but I do not know how familiar you are with boilers.)
    - Can't "just" change the nozzle, but must change air settings too, and do according to test instruments.
    - If you don't know if the boiler is big enough for the "large" addition, do a heat loss, or have someone do one for you.

  • one other thing

if you over fire the boiler it may crack!

    crack an ek boiler?

Don't think you can crack this boiler too easy. The firing ranges mentioned above are all within the limitations of the boiler, which is designed for cold starts ups.

    of course....

this would be the only way to do it... you do the same w/ any oil fired boiler.
  • I mean crack

by the flame impinging on the casting. To much flame for to small a chamber.

    I understand what you....

are saying, but the EK is not a cast iron boiler, but a steel welded coil of sorts, thats designed to contract and expand. Brings the temp from cold to 180deg. in about 2 mins.. A low mass steel boiler.

I don't know how much more output you need but I have an EK-1 that I installed in 1988 that has been over fired by 10% since 1992. I have a 1.00gph nozzle @ 135 psi. I know it's not much but is seemed to solve my problem on that job.
