Convert 2 pipe steam system to hot water?

I have converted approximately 50 two pipe steam systems to hot water and have never really had an easy time of it.

The biggest headache is any hidden piping that may not hold the new pressure and having the radiators tested.

I have had much more success in replacing steam with steam but being like a NAZI over the near boiler piping and all the piping in the basement and being sure that the traps and valves are o.k.

Check the vents too!!!!

Should I consider converting a steam system to hot water?

I have an 80 year old house, the boiler is gas-fired and around 50 years old, it is not fuel effecient and nearing the end of its useful life.
My question comes then is when it is time to replace the boiler, should I get another steam boiler, or is there an adavantage to converting to a hot water system?

I concur

a 2-pipe system that age is probably Vapor. These were the Cadillac of heating in their day, and with a new steam boiler are still some of the best out there. I'd keep the steam.

Have you been able to locate any manufacturer's info on your system (Dunham, Trane, Webster etc)?
