hb smith pvg series induced draft

On this boiler ~1987 the flue collector sits on top of the cast sections. Tonight we noticed that there is a gap between them and elevated CO. Its totally shut down obviously for safety reasons.

When this was built was it just gasket cement between these 2 parts? Or was it a gasket?

We have to make a judgement call in the morning as to whether to keep it or replace it as its now around 18 degrees here & base will be in danger of freezing tomorrow night.

TIA

  • If the collector is in good condition,,the gap can be sealed with furnace cement. Be sure to check the draft and re-check for CO after repairs are made. The collector should sit firmly on top of the sections.
