Richardson two pipe heating system

I have a house that was built in the 1940's that has a (Richardson system) prior to my purchase someone changed the boiler and removed the main air vent and replaced it with a (hoffman speciality #75 vent). The boiler was also installed with a pressure trol. My heating bills are not astronomical. Would I imrove my efficienty if I change the pressure trol ,and the air vent (where would i find the right vent)

If anyone could help it would be great

    With this one

I'd like to see a Gorton No. 2 as the main vent and a vaporstat instead of a pressuretrol. Keep the pressure low.

    Pressure trol vs. Vaporstat

I'd agree with Dan on the vent and the vaporstat. 99% of the residential steam boilers I work on have pressuretrols and they cannot moderate below 8 oz.

Most residential systems can run on 2-3oz. and you cannot get that with a pressuretrol.

The manufacturers have these habits. But we are the people that have to live with the phone calls from the homeowners.

    Yes Jonathan..the boys are right...but....is it a ...

Richardson or Boynton/Richardson????? I've seen both...I guess they merged at one point. I did a new boiler and repiped wet returns. Followed Dan's advice to a tee ...no problems....have it running on about 8 ozs on a vaporstat....Gorton # 2s on the end of the return main AND supply main...this baby heats in minutes. That same boiler is actually the one that I'm pictured with on the new Burnham Calendar. Mad Dog
