B&G in China

Now Weldbend has sued Silbo Industries Inc., Pro-Fit Piping Components, Inc., and Allied Fitting Corp., according to "The Wholesaler" magazine (12/02 issue, page 4), accusing them of unlawfully importing and selling mismarked Chinese carbon steel butt-weld pipe fittings and carbon steel flanges. Weldbend complains that "the defendants have arranged with Chinese suppliers and foreign and domestic intermediaries to transship Chinese fittings and flanges through third world countries, to place false country-of-origin markings on the products, and to make false declarations as to the origin of the products, all to conceal from U.S. wholesalers, distributors, and end users the true Chinese origin of the products."

    BELL & GOSSETT OPENS
    MANUFACTURING PLANT IN CHINA

Facility to produce pumps sold to customers in China

Morton Grove, Illinois – December 5, 2002— Bell & Gossett, a unit of ITT Industries, has opened a manufacturing plant in Shenyang, China. The 17,000 square foot assembly center adds local manufacturing to improve flexibility and decrease lead times for the company’s centrifugal pumps that are sold throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Already a principal supplier of pumps and accessories for China’s prominent commercial and entertainment facilities such as the ScienceLand science museum in Shanghai and the new stadium in Guangzhou, the Shenyang facility will strengthen Bell & Gossett’s position in the region by bringing the company’s high quality, U.S.- designed products to the Asian market.

During the grand opening ceremonies on October 28, 2002, John Everhart, Director of International Sales and Marketing for ITT Industries’ Fluid Handling unit, said, “The new facility provides our distributors and customers with locally produced, high quality products and services. We believe it is important to focus on adding value to all aspects of our business, including products, training, and customer support. This facility is a key element to meet the expanding needs of our local customers.”

Pasquale (“Pat”) DePalma, President of ITT’s Fluid Handling Division, said, “Our new Shenyang facility is an example of Fluid Handling Division’s increasing focus on the international marketplace,” adding, “the new facility is an investment in the future for both China and ITT Industries.”

  • Yep, I got a couple of those

I wasn't impressed one way or the other.

But, considering that I read about products made in North Korean slave labour camps, then "washed, laundered or disguised" and exported here as "Made in China". As if made in China makes them any better.

Now, I don't believe everything I read. But, an old friend of mine is an industrial refrigeration engineer, and travels all over the world. He said "every single plant he ever visited in China is run like a slave labour camp, and just being there witnessing how people are treated, is enough to make any normal person vomit".

I think I'll stick with Wirsbo and Kitec etc'.

I don't use much pex, but I do like to know where it comes from.

Brian, in almost pexless, dark ages, Louisiana.

    do they think we believe

that the factory will only be producing for the local market?

Anyone want to start a pool on how long it will be until B&G pump production is moved totally off-shore?

    Mark

PS - The IAS I recently purchased was made in China :-(
  • is it just me or is the stuff from asia

a sloppy fit most of the time. i dont mind stuff from germany as its quality is as good or better than ours. but i cant say that for asian stuff. least their pipe fittings anyhow. real poor fit.
