What is the advatage of having the pump on the discharge side of a boiler. Doesn't the pump want to see lower water temps?

you
are looking to pump away from the expansion tank, which normally is on the discharge of the boiler. Our host's "pumping away" book tells all about it.
Modern pumps can see up to 250 degrees. There is no problem putting them on the supply.
