vent leaks

I have a steam (one-pipe) system. The vent on one of the closest radiators (to the boiler) sometimes drips. My wife saw it spouting water once, not merely dripping. I'm tired of closing the valve everytime this happens. Suggestions Please. BTW, this is a "re-positioned" radiator in a bathroom...a new bigger tub forced it to be moved.

  • Moving 1 pipe steam

radiators is like playing craps. Even the pros don't always win. The condensate in the radiator must go back down the same pipe the steam is coming up. That is why moving a radiator further away from the riser it was connected to is not always a winning move. Some suggestions.

The pitch of the pipe from the riser to the radiator should rise 1" for each 10' of run. The vent end of the radiator must be higher than the valve end. And. If that does not work, you may have to increase the size of the run out to the radiator. Valve too. There are many radiators installed on boxes to accommodate the necessary piping changes. Ain't steam fun?

    Good luck.

    Sure sounds like

a pitch problem, and did you use the correct radiator inlet valve with the full open outlet? When you say moved the radiator does that mean you came up from the supply a different way? As the other posts said, pitch and sizing is a huge issue with steam.
