    Is This

    One pipe or two ??

I am not a fan of copper either ( sorry Ron, I'll never change ).

Is the equaliser hidden behind the mains in the picture ?

Joe when you post pictures just remember some of these guys have good eyes, and we're all here to learn.

Just the fact that your showing pictures means you care.

    Scott

    OK Chuck

Copper return was already there just rehooked.Second the hanger has been replaced last night did not have one with me at install time.Against the clock for a 85 year old with a bad heart.Just trying to get it running.Thrid usually do all return pipe in black as I have posted several steam jobs on this board, but have used cooper also when time makes me.But I think nothing wrong with cooper returns just my way.Ask ron jr do you think his work is a joke.Yes I did install pipe on 67 for flushing. As to flue damper to isolate equitment on off cycle please explain.I would like to know what you mean.I am here to learn not get bashed!Yes I am getting paid for this job.I you have questions in the future I would love your opinion just not to get hammered.I believe I do quality work but can always can improve.Friends or what:)

Yes equualizer is not shown in the pictures. In the back of boiler.Tight area but I would not forget it promise.
  • Good work Joe

Dont worry about the copper return piping . Although it was a long and valiant attempt , Im gonna give up trying to convince Scott its not as bad as some might think .

Was the job another one day install ? I see it was in a tight spot . None of the higher ups where I work dont seem to understand how much longer a job will take if its in a closet rather than a full open basement . Or if its right through a garage - instead of through the house , down a flight of stairs , through a basement . Or if the job is an hour and a half ride away instead of the next block over . Oh , got off the point a little .

If you and I had the luxury of having a few days to install a system like that - well , you know its a fine balance between giving them as much as possible , and giving them heat in one day . Do you have a pic of what was in there origionally ? I like how you put a bypass on the feeder - most will rely on the button on the feeder itself - which wont work if it goes bad .

I was having the same trouble with the pictures - you cant fit the whole job in one picture if its a tight spot. What I do is hold my camera sideways , so I can fit the whole job on one shot . Keep up the good work Joe .

Did not take a before picture. My guys get there before me to start the rip out.It was one day 7am start 6 pm finish. As to the water feeder just put in a tee with a loop and a ball valve for a by pass.Much easier then holding the button and started doing that few years back after having a feeder go bad and not being able to put water in the boiler.Live and learn. All small job we try to do in one day.Being installer and service tech in the same day is alot of fun. After job was done went on three no heat calls. One bad circulator thank god valve on both side my install 5 years ago:), second bad thermosat and thrid one at 9 pm @#$% owner had the switch off.Long day but not complaining after last year that we did nothing.

    flue damper ?

In the flue a damper that closes electrically . a call for heat allows it to open, and end switch starts the boiler when full open. These things stop heat from going out the roof, when the fire stops. Save perhaps some 6>8% of fuel bill by keeping the heat in the boiler.

    Thanks for

Posting the pictures. It is always interesting and informative to see other peoples work.
Not being an oil tech I am wondering about the two vavles ahead of the oil filter. What is the first and smaller one for?

Frist valve is a fuseable valve that must be installed for safty. It seals in case of a fire so no oil is added to a fire. The second is a gate valve to service the fuel filter.

    Flue Dampers

As far as I know, no one is making flue dampers for oil-fired boilers. Flair used to but they went out of business. On gas units, I see a lot of Honeywell and Effikal units and they seem to hold up well.

    Nice job, Joe.

    fusible valve

May also be called a thermal valve. It will close if a fire hits it. There is a populer brand called Firematic.

    Isn't it funny?

Isn't it funny how that sweet old woman can't let go of a crib that held her children while they slept. The brand was probably recalled years ago. Her childrens' children are probably raised now. Yet, the crib stays as a reminder of a time ago. The memories of her children crying to be picked up when they awake can probably still be heard by her as she walks by it.
