what it means when a steam pipe makes a sound like small ball bearings (bb's) dropping (in the pipe). Does anyone remember/know what it meant or what it is caused by?0 -

I don't know Dan, that's doesn't ring a bell. If it is, it's not typical at all. This is a very gentle, muffled sound that's pretty much continuous (with some 2-3 second pauses) for a minute or two.0 -
Yes, it stops once the pipes warm up. So maybe simple expansion.0
