    RPA

Those who know me, already knew that. Now I'm RPA designer/installer certifiable too(G). Also took the test to begin teaching their Radiant Basics course, so I'm ready to inflict my brand of humor on unsuspecting wet head neophites too!

    Dave

Congratulations! Thanks for bringing the industry a step forward by "raising the bar".

I wonder if you could give me some advice. I too am looking to be an RPA member, certified designer, and installer. Did you start with the basics course? I am trying to gauge if I should try the upcoming correspondance course, wait to to the 2nd level course and then take the designers test. I have exchanged information with Larry Drake and John Fauntauzzi but I am not sure where to begin.
I have been in Plbg Wholesale for 14 years now and doing radiant design, sales, for 4 years. Been to Wirsbo, B&G, multiple Tekmars, Lochinvar school but can't gauge where to start with my experience level. Was the basics course overly redundant with your skill level and background?

    Thanks in advance,

    PR

    The RPA test

Is based upon two sets of criteria. Siggy's Radiant Basics and the RPA Standards. A healthy dose of actual experience helps a great deal, but you'll be dead in the water if you don't study.

When I study printed materials, I use a highlighter on anything that jumps out as being an important point. That helps me retain it to memory and is a great way to review the materials. If you have the time, writing notes helps even better regarding memory retention. I've been through the Radiant Basics course and the Advanced as well as Controls when attending the RPA conventions & I'm sure that helped too. I'd strongly suggest attending those courses no matter if you were intending to take the tests or not.

    Let's take a look

at what you've got there already (it's great stuff) and add this to it. The focus will be on what the certification means to your current and future customers.

    Fixed it

The software that runs Find a Contractor sees quotation marks at something else and writes them in computer language. I changed " to ' and it's okay now. Sorry about that!

    Congrats-Dave

Welcome to the club. I thought the test was pretty well rounded. I didn't get to look at siggy's book before I took the test. I had to lean hard on my 20 years of experience. I don't know what is covered in the book but it would take some real broad based experience to pass this test I feel. And I think that's great!
