Measurement of Conductivity

I have a conductivity tester (TDS also) and it reads in Uhmos. What is considered a reading where action is required?
TDS is in ppm and everywhere I've looked I'm given mg/liter
Anyway.. Hope someone knows or can point me to a site..
Thanks :-) Kca

milligrammes & ppm
1 ppm = 1 mg/litre. A litre weighs 1 kilogramme = 1,000 grammes = 1,000,000 milligrammes.

Well...
Thanks for the reply mate!! At what measurement 250mg/l or 600mg/l, is action required?
At what measurement of conductivity is there a problem?

conductivity
My previous answer was a little incorrect. A litre of water weighs 1 kg, so ppm = mg/l for aqueous solutions.
As for the conductivity, I don't know. Every heating system I've ever dealt with has been filled with mains water with about 250 ppm hardness. It could be a problem if you were filling a system with well water with high TDS, but it's not a problem I've encountered. I've only ever used a conductivity meter on a de-ionized water system.
It is not usual to check TDS on closed circuit heating systems, the pH and the oxygen content are the usual parameters that need to be measured and controlled.
The system should be a closed circuit, with no evaporation. The TDS should not increase after the initial fill. I hope someone with more chemical knowledge will help you out.0 -
Let me try
is this a water only system? TDS will go up with treatments added. Clean water stay below 1200 TDS. TDS divided by .65 will give you conductivity number. Check the TDS on your fill water, and compare it to the boiler reading.
Is the TDS creeping up? Sometimes this will indicate a leak and new freshwater being introduced.
If the system has any type of chemical added the TDS number will be higher.

Thanks
I am looking for solutions to high conductivity & TDS. Purging may be the only one for TDS.
I e-mailed Scott. Thanks for both of your help.
