DHW circulators

DHW inadequate. Storage tank with Taco 006 circulator pumping through a direct coil in the boiler. Circulator very hot, line cold. Inspection showed circulator seized. Replaced cartridge.

Now the fun part. Further inspection showed the hollow of the pump shaft to be completely filled with calcium, which stopped the pump cooling, and then the pump. Although the well water is softened, the boiler feed was taken from the unsoftened side, and then the DHW feed was taken from the convenient boiler feed. We wonder just what else is well limed despite the owner's impression that their whole water system has been softened all these years. We repiped the DHW feed to the other side of the softener.

Put the lime in the .....

I would venture to suggest that anything that has had the calcium/limed water run thru it! All the pipes, the coil in the boiler, the water heater tank, the faucets. The toilet tank and the internal "ports" where the water fills the bowl.
